I'm THAT girl....

Hello World...

The content of this blog post carried me through may dreams last night...well gave me at least an idea.  I've been blessed to experience some wonderful times and have created some memories that will forever bring a sly smile to my lips. (Click here to jam with me while you read...) and to put you in my mindset.

It started me to thinking MORE about the type of guy that would connect and vibe with me.  So I started thinking about what type of person am I?  Folks ask "so what's your type" all the time but it really depends on what energy YOU are giving out.  So I started to recall my upbringing.  I'm a country girl from a small Texas German town....hmmmm yes let that marinate.  I grew up on ALL music genres I LOVE it all.  I got baptized in the music world at an early age (age 3 to be exact, thanks Granny). Thanks to my Granny Clara Elliott, I can read music and was able to develop my ear.  My granny was the oldest of 10 and had her own brood.  My mom is one of 10 with older and younger siblings that I loved to hang out with.  Wisdom and Fun and that includes my older cousins who were more like big brothers and sisters.  So now...what was I exposed to?

  • Music
  • Cars
  • Electronics
  • Tree Climbing
  • 10 acres to roam/run/ride
  • Free flowing country living
  • Fishing
  • Some girly stuff (which I didnt really latch onto...i'm not a prissy, shopping chic)
So as a grown azz woman what type of person did I grow into?  A lady that likes to be around positive, open-minded, focused people.  When I hang around guys, my immediate thought is NOT oooo he's boyfriend material...I grew up kicking with the male people so I'm just kicking it like everybody else.  GREAT bodyguards when/if the time comes. LOL!  I'm that girl that can be cute, hang with the guys, jam to music, can talk cars and a few other hobbies and things.  I like it ALL!  Yes I'm THAT girl.  I don't need the labels, I don't need the purses.  Give me a good quality made piece of luggage or purse that will last while I roam.

Now, I've grown to appreciate my curves since they aren't going anywhere so, uuuh yeah there's that (Shamless less plug: The Lyngale Agency for models 40 & Over).  And shouts out to my trainer - Curtis Supreme Fitness for keeping me right! (if i can just stay obedient and consistent. LOL)

I'm that girl that can go camping and knows to pack the off spray, a can opener, soup, a pop-up tent will do and can do a survival stint if need be...thanks to my military training (Shouts out USAF - 610th SPS).  What type of girl am I?  One that enjoys it ALL.

NOW....what type of dude appeals to me?  One that can flow and vibe with me and keep me interested.  My Aries sign seems to reiterate that and I'm finding that same personality trait with fellow Aries!  I can't deal with someone that is looking to lock me down and stifle my creativity, hell I do enough stifling on my own with my few bouts of self-doubt I don't need assistance in that area.  I don't do controlling dudes, I've experienced that and it's not fun!  What trips me out is that there are guys out there who plot to control women due to their lack of proper upbringing.  What a scary thing!  No, what I need is someone that will inspire me to do something else.  Give me some ideas with what to do with my current skillset AND do MORE!!  I'm THAT girl and I'm waiting on THAT dude!  Oh man it's going to be SO freakin' awesome when we finally link up!  I'm excited!  Lemme tell you I've come in contact with some that are VEEEEEEEERY nice.  So I know I'm up for something great!

My words of wisdom today ladies and gents....think about who you are and what you've grown into and instead of looking for the best looking specimen and always thinking you need a certain look based on status.  You'd be REAL surprised at what REALLY works for your personality.  Get with who is GREAT for YOU!  I promise you that you will enjoy life when that puzzle piece connects.

So whoever you are SIR...I'm thinking of YOU...and I'll be enhancing my skillset and living the luxury brown until you find me...and then we can continue living and loving life together! :-D

Continue to enjoy life!!  Peace and Blessings....

Comfortable in the skin I'm in.....

Hello World...

If you've been following me, you know I had a fashion show last night.   I'm really enjoying doing more shows.  I'm meeting more people and learning a lot more each time.

Due to my curviness, I'm considered a plus sized model which doesn't bother me at all.  I grew up as the real skinny girl with a butt..LOL...no hips but my gluteus has always been maximus with my body proportions.  And that was not a fun time in my life I could never gain weight, no matter how much I ate my metabolism just burned it all away which was cool in a small way.  I was very active in school with track and other activities so I was conditioning my body to burn so no real issue there.  But boy when I started gaining weight little my little, I started getting hips and I was a happy camper.  The only thing is that (and i love my DNA for this) my proportions small top, small waist, hips and a nice sized derriere producing very nice curves.  I love my curves but the fashion industry seems to only like the curves on size 10's and smaller.....WELP...this Ageless Beauty will NOT be dropping down beyond my size 12/14 frame...so plus sized it is.  On a fitness note, I do have a trainer to keep the curves tamed and toned, shouts out to Curtis Hayes of Curtis Supreme Fitness  he not only trains you to YOUR goal but makes sure your nutrional plan keeps you where you want and need to be....he teaches you the whole package.  *thanks coach!*

So this blog is in reference to my backstage observations last night during the fashion show.  I was part of a team of curvy models, and we rocked it by the way...shouts out to FR Collections, so backstage is always a mixture of all sizes.  Sometimes majority are the slimmer models but hey no biggie we all get dressed together.  So last night I just kinda sat back and observed everything.  The first nugget was listening to a convo and one young lady says "....oh yeah I work out, I want to be an established model so I can't get fat."  I got her meaning, it's just that people don't really think all the way through when they are conversing.  Next were the multiple requests of "oooo hey I really like this piece; can you make this in MY size?" emphasis on "my" as if her sewing machine only creates plus sized clothing.  And then (and this was a doozy) when one of the models admired a dress hanging on the rack and said "hey, i'm getting this dress!  This is me!" her friend (attempting to whisper) said "girl you can't wear that one, that's for big people."

All I could do was chuckle and chalk it up to their innocence.  One day they too will get older, will have kids or who knows what life will throw at them and they'll figure out a filter and realize that innocence and the true definition of ignorance are very close neighbors.  At an earlier point in my life I may have been annoyed, angered may be even a little humiliated due to whatever insecurity I was dealing with BUT I just turned 43 last month and guess who is comfortable in their skin.  **Hand Raised**

The fashion industry has come a long way and being a bean pole with no ass is no longer the common look.  Yes, a lot of designers still look for a skinny, curvy model (which almost sounds oxymoronish) but there are a lot more that create for those of us with curves plus a little more.

I always end my posts with a positive word...so let's look at more positive responses to the 2 observed scenarios.  Instead of the young lady saying "I want to model and can't get fat" she could've said "I want to model and I prefer to stay this size...".  The other scenario the young lady didn't even have to respond, I mean that was just a homer simpson "doh!" moment, seriously.

I encourage you to stay healthy, stay fit and be comfortable in the skin you're in.  Don't base your life and looks on something that isn't real.  Pictures are airbrushed and the bean pole models don't really get a chance to enjoy life (in my opinion) because every food moment has to be measured and thought about in calories and carbs and whatever.  As a model, I get it to a certain degree but life has taught me that it's everything in moderation including exercise and diet.  As a foodie....bump that, I'm tasting and I'm eating baaay bay! (*shamless plug: check out my food review site to see where i'm eating.*)

Don't let society pull you in....do YOU!

Peace and Blessings....

Life is what you make it.....

Hello World....

One of my FB friends posted a picture that says:

"I surround myself with people that force me to do better."

And that is something I have ALWAYS done because at some point in my life, my self-motivation has waned something terribly.  So I make myself do better by being around go-getters.  You can't sit back and chill when your friends are constantly morphing into their true butterfly selves!

I'm meeting folks from everywhere...social media is a beautiful thing!  One thing I'm getting more into here in "hotlanta" is modeling.  Check me out here.  Yes the nerves are there...I wanna do more singing but the nerves...uuugh...they keep holding me back....and THEEEEEEN tonight at a casting call for The Lyngale Agency I sat down and had a good conversation with a fellow 40+ beauty that I'd talked to before ya know just chit chat nothing serious and THEN tonight she told me her story.  She was going along in life, husband/kids and out of the blue at the end of her work day, her eyesight started fading....she's actually going blind because of some rare fluke of a genetic foolishness.  Still vibrant, still radiant, still loving life!  Still a mom, still a wife with an awesomely supportive husband.  I'm not going to call her name because it's her story to tell and when she does it'll be a book to read, I know I'll buy it.  But you see this convo happened at a casting call, the first time we met was at a model runway class.  She hadn't stopped living and here I am nervous due to just plain ole being scared, the genetic issues I have didn't dibilitate me to the point of not being able to move around.  My food intake, natural herbs and moderate exercises have worked for me.  I'm still able to walk, talk and do what I want and I'm too scared to live my life like I should.

The song you heard earlier said "Life is what you make it..." and dammit it is!  I am ashamed...so ashamed as well I should be.  And at this point/going forward I shall do better about living and not just existing!  I have NO excuses!

In conclusion..... Life is what you make it....make it GOOD!!!!!

((Hugs)) Peace and Blessings!!

On a Mission...

Hello World....

This thought came to me during my morning commute.  I work in Midtown Atlanta and my route includes a large pedestrian walk that stops traffic at will.  Yes, the push of a button activates flashing lights and the pedestrian walks across and the cars HAVE to stop. Luckily it's the state law that cars have to stop if a pedestrian is in a streeet crosswalk (not the crosswalks at the intersections of traffic signals. don't get run over and blame me. wait your turn! LOL).   Anywho as I was strolling taking my time as these 2 and 3 ton machines (and their drivers) had to wait until I got across, I thought about the type of power one has when they are walking in their destiny and on that straight path.  No need to hurry...no need to speed up because of someone else's emergency or negative energy.  Take your time and get to your goal in the allotted time...because a hurried action on someone else's part means consequences for THEM.

Moral of this story....

In the words of the infamous SOS Band "you can do it take your time do it right...." (click SOS and jam)

You only get this life ONCE...have fun...do what you were born to do and LIVE!!!

Peace and Blessings...

Do you see what they see?

Hello World...

How many times have you been in a bad mood, depressed and couldn't look at yourself in the mirror?   Have you ever looked in the mirror and not even  recognized who was looking back?

You didn't really like what you saw....

And THEN you get around some positive people and someone looks at you and calls you a survivor, a strong person, a real friend and the whole time you're sitting there smiling but thinking "is she talking about ME?"

Yes!  They are talking about YOU!  It amazes me how we are so hard on ourselves.  Somewhere, something bad happened in your life and you can't let it go.  You continuously knock yourself down and don't allow yourself to just learn from the life lesson.  Listen, it's ok to have a quick pity party when shit goes bad but don't let it turn into a convention.  Cry and yell and then sit down with a pen and piece of paper and figure out a solution to whatever "it" is.

Get around some positive people so you can be reminded of who you are!  Yes, we go through crazy stuff in life and Yes the outcome is not always good.  BUT if you stay true to who you really are and keep moving forward, you will get back to your good self.  So look back at the, now tear stained, list of solutions and smile.  Wipe your eyes and clean your runny nose and look in the mirror again and check out that amazing person staring back!

Get around some of your friends and see if you see what they see.   Get around some people that see you for who you really are and remember who you really are!  And as you exit this post (thank you for reading by the way) I give you one of my celebratory songs to jam to!  Jam Here!  (yes there is a line dance to this....) LOL!

Peace and Blessings....

Let's Get It Started....

Hello World...

2014 was not as grand as I'd liked it.  I had some things to happen but not as many objectives met as I'd liked.  Totally my fault.  But there were some awesome events that I can smile about.  I became MORE active in modeling, I even have a new website which showcases some past photoshoots as well as modeling gigs I participated in you can view that here.  My singing...aaaah not some much.  I'm back in touch with my vocal coach but I need to reactivate everything.  One of my sisters got married..it was a BE-autiful ceremony!  Everything else has gone o-kay.  Not fabulous but o-kay.  I have learned how to walk in 3 inch heels (kinda) LOL.  Thanks to the Tina Bridges monthly class, not only can I walk in them but I'm learning to walk like a model should.  This year will be better than last year. LOL!

So for 2015...heeey in my MC Hammer voice "Let's Get It Started"....

The Christmas/New Year holidays were interesting.  I spent Christmas Day in the hospital with my mom, she had a planned procedure that had complications which prolonged her stay.  Thankfully I left her at home today (1/1/15) and feeling fine! Praise God!

I had some meaningful convesations with girlfriends and came out of it with a renewed mindset.  What is a friend?  You know, a real friend, I mean a real real friend doesn't need to be coddled and stroked everyday, that is the definition/description of someone that needs attention or an attention seeker.  Apparently my personality doesn't support those types so they excuse themselves..which is good because even though i'm a GREAT listener and can give input if wanted, I don't have time for back to back negativity and whining.  It's very very draining.  So...yeah..as one of my younger cousins said in a FB post "Not every person you lose is a loss." So true, so true indeed!

For 2015...more social media marketing.  EADWM is taking off, I have several new projects underway, I'm very very excited about my food review company.  AND of course getting ready for the SHE Created iT annual February event, be on the lookout for flyers and information for this awesome event.  One other organization that I'm part of as Women With Gifts, headed up by Lanette Kincaid.  This entails uplifting women and their gifts (hence the name).  I'm doing some social media marketing for an upcoming event in March called "I survived". This event is to support those that are survivors of sexual abuse, domestic violence and breast cancer; you can purchase your tickets here.  I will be in Texas for that event. So not only do I plan on doing more online events but also more traveling, domestic and international.  I plan on staying involved in whatever is going on.

There is a LOT on the plate but I have created my vision wall and will be checking off items on a regular basis.  And OMG one of my friends brought back some memories of my entrepreneural days!  NO details right now but let's just say that some business ideas that were tucked away in the drawer have been pulled out.  I'm excited!  More to come soon!!

The motivational part of this blog entry is this:
Continue forward, 2014 may have included some backwards AND forwards movement.  That's okay, Don't beat yourself up about it because there's NOthing you can do about it.  The only thing you can do is figure out the next step and that should be easy with Universal guidance.  If you meditate and pay attention, you'll hear the answer.  That's one thing I plan on adding into my daily routine is meditation.  I've never done it before but I know it would help calm my mind and keep me grounded.

In the words of a witty flight attendant:  For those that paid attention to the safety instructions, "thank you"; to those that chose not to pay attention "Good luck".

Peace and Blessings....

Running From Yourself...

Hello World....

Just a few words for wisdom and encouragement before you start your day.

We are born with a purpose.  Some get to know theirs before others...others give up...others keep going in the hopes that ONE day the answer will come.  In a different category, some figure it out and then run from it in the name of FEAR.  Coming from a SHECreatediT business seminar yesterday (9/21/14),  I had the pleasure of sitting in front of an awesome person, Myron Schippers.   and listen about Goal Setting.  Among the other information that was disseminated at this think tank/meeting of the minds, I got the definition of FEAR: False Evidence Appears Real

Fear makes us run from our objectives, makes us run from ourselves.  What does that mean? It means, you know you are an artist (your purpose), meaning you have a gift that plagues you day in and day out because it's not being fed and created.  Developing your gift will take creativity and work to be successful, so to run away from it.  How?  You take a job in corporate america to get comfortable and get a guaranteed check.  OH wow! you have a paycheck every two weeks and benefits...you are comfortable yet miserable.  Miserable because your gift is still dancing in your mental waiting to manifest.  Yes! Your gift is present and you dabble in it and each time you dabble you get this feeling of contentment...contentment because you are where you are supposed to be.

I can only speak for me so I'll use me as an example - singing/pianist.  I do it/have done it got scared and I ran...once I started running I kept making up excuses of why I was running.  Even though I'm surrounded by people that are making it happen, I see the process I see them go from planning on paper to fruition and still the excuses come of why I can't do it.  And the more excuses that come up, the worse I feel.  The cycle has to change, the cycle is changing, running around in a circle makes me dizzy.  A good friend of mine just said "stop going back in time" she wasn't talking about this blog or the topic, she doesn't even know I'm writing this right now but it spoke to me because my downfall is to continue to look back on BAD things and allowing my future to be affected.  A question I pose to myself, "what about the GOOD things?  Why not reflect on those and allow my future to be affected?"  Great question self.  We're working on that right now! (Read "Pregnant With A Purpose")

  • First step - Vision Board in full effect!
    • See it/ Plan it/Do it
  • Second step - Create the plan
  • Third step - Do the plan
  • Constant step - Adjust the plan (always)

The moral of this story:

Stop running from your destiny!  Stop letting a made up feeling stop you from being totally happy!  Quit settling for less than....get more than...get YOUR more than!

Peace and Blessings!
