Comfortable in the skin I'm in.....

Hello World...

If you've been following me, you know I had a fashion show last night.   I'm really enjoying doing more shows.  I'm meeting more people and learning a lot more each time.

Due to my curviness, I'm considered a plus sized model which doesn't bother me at all.  I grew up as the real skinny girl with a butt..LOL...no hips but my gluteus has always been maximus with my body proportions.  And that was not a fun time in my life I could never gain weight, no matter how much I ate my metabolism just burned it all away which was cool in a small way.  I was very active in school with track and other activities so I was conditioning my body to burn so no real issue there.  But boy when I started gaining weight little my little, I started getting hips and I was a happy camper.  The only thing is that (and i love my DNA for this) my proportions small top, small waist, hips and a nice sized derriere producing very nice curves.  I love my curves but the fashion industry seems to only like the curves on size 10's and smaller.....WELP...this Ageless Beauty will NOT be dropping down beyond my size 12/14 frame...so plus sized it is.  On a fitness note, I do have a trainer to keep the curves tamed and toned, shouts out to Curtis Hayes of Curtis Supreme Fitness  he not only trains you to YOUR goal but makes sure your nutrional plan keeps you where you want and need to be....he teaches you the whole package.  *thanks coach!*

So this blog is in reference to my backstage observations last night during the fashion show.  I was part of a team of curvy models, and we rocked it by the way...shouts out to FR Collections, so backstage is always a mixture of all sizes.  Sometimes majority are the slimmer models but hey no biggie we all get dressed together.  So last night I just kinda sat back and observed everything.  The first nugget was listening to a convo and one young lady says "....oh yeah I work out, I want to be an established model so I can't get fat."  I got her meaning, it's just that people don't really think all the way through when they are conversing.  Next were the multiple requests of "oooo hey I really like this piece; can you make this in MY size?" emphasis on "my" as if her sewing machine only creates plus sized clothing.  And then (and this was a doozy) when one of the models admired a dress hanging on the rack and said "hey, i'm getting this dress!  This is me!" her friend (attempting to whisper) said "girl you can't wear that one, that's for big people."

All I could do was chuckle and chalk it up to their innocence.  One day they too will get older, will have kids or who knows what life will throw at them and they'll figure out a filter and realize that innocence and the true definition of ignorance are very close neighbors.  At an earlier point in my life I may have been annoyed, angered may be even a little humiliated due to whatever insecurity I was dealing with BUT I just turned 43 last month and guess who is comfortable in their skin.  **Hand Raised**

The fashion industry has come a long way and being a bean pole with no ass is no longer the common look.  Yes, a lot of designers still look for a skinny, curvy model (which almost sounds oxymoronish) but there are a lot more that create for those of us with curves plus a little more.

I always end my posts with a positive word...so let's look at more positive responses to the 2 observed scenarios.  Instead of the young lady saying "I want to model and can't get fat" she could've said "I want to model and I prefer to stay this size...".  The other scenario the young lady didn't even have to respond, I mean that was just a homer simpson "doh!" moment, seriously.

I encourage you to stay healthy, stay fit and be comfortable in the skin you're in.  Don't base your life and looks on something that isn't real.  Pictures are airbrushed and the bean pole models don't really get a chance to enjoy life (in my opinion) because every food moment has to be measured and thought about in calories and carbs and whatever.  As a model, I get it to a certain degree but life has taught me that it's everything in moderation including exercise and diet.  As a foodie....bump that, I'm tasting and I'm eating baaay bay! (*shamless plug: check out my food review site to see where i'm eating.*)

Don't let society pull you in....do YOU!

Peace and Blessings....

Life is what you make it.....

Hello World....

One of my FB friends posted a picture that says:

"I surround myself with people that force me to do better."

And that is something I have ALWAYS done because at some point in my life, my self-motivation has waned something terribly.  So I make myself do better by being around go-getters.  You can't sit back and chill when your friends are constantly morphing into their true butterfly selves!

I'm meeting folks from everywhere...social media is a beautiful thing!  One thing I'm getting more into here in "hotlanta" is modeling.  Check me out here.  Yes the nerves are there...I wanna do more singing but the nerves...uuugh...they keep holding me back....and THEEEEEEN tonight at a casting call for The Lyngale Agency I sat down and had a good conversation with a fellow 40+ beauty that I'd talked to before ya know just chit chat nothing serious and THEN tonight she told me her story.  She was going along in life, husband/kids and out of the blue at the end of her work day, her eyesight started fading....she's actually going blind because of some rare fluke of a genetic foolishness.  Still vibrant, still radiant, still loving life!  Still a mom, still a wife with an awesomely supportive husband.  I'm not going to call her name because it's her story to tell and when she does it'll be a book to read, I know I'll buy it.  But you see this convo happened at a casting call, the first time we met was at a model runway class.  She hadn't stopped living and here I am nervous due to just plain ole being scared, the genetic issues I have didn't dibilitate me to the point of not being able to move around.  My food intake, natural herbs and moderate exercises have worked for me.  I'm still able to walk, talk and do what I want and I'm too scared to live my life like I should.

The song you heard earlier said "Life is what you make it..." and dammit it is!  I am ashamed...so ashamed as well I should be.  And at this point/going forward I shall do better about living and not just existing!  I have NO excuses!

In conclusion..... Life is what you make it....make it GOOD!!!!!

((Hugs)) Peace and Blessings!!
